Climate conditions and crowd levels for each month of the year.
January brings Tehran's coldest sustained weather. Highs reach around 7°C (45°F). Overnight lows reliably touch or drop below 0°C (32°F). Snow is possible. Occasionally it falls heavy. It tends not to linger at lower elevations. The ski resorts above the northern suburbs are in full swing. Indoor cultural life draws locals. Cafes, galleries, and the covered bazaar fill. Tourists do not.
February softens slightly. Highs reach 9°C (49°F) on warmer days. The city can still feel raw and grey early in the month. Days are lengthening noticeably. The Alborz above Tehran holds excellent snow. Rainfall stays at around 38mm. Most falls brief, not sustained.
March brings Nowruz, the Persian New Year. Tehran is at its most festive during the first weeks. Temperatures climb to highs of 14°C (58°F). The first spring rains arrive, usually short and refreshing. Parks and public spaces fill with families celebrating. The energy is unlike any other time of year.
April is widely considered Tehran's most pleasant month. Highs reach 20°C (69°F). The city's parks and mountain foothills are at their greenest. Rainfall, around 41mm for the month, tends to fall in short bursts. Grey, sustained periods are rare.
May builds on April's momentum. Highs climb to 26°C (79°F). The air stays clear and manageable. The Alborz trails are fully accessible. Mountains remain snow-capped above higher ridelines. The backdrop is striking, visible from much of the city. Rainfall drops to around 18mm. More dry days than wet.
June marks Tehran's transition into dry season. Highs push to 32°C (90°F). Rainfall drops to almost nothing, just 3mm for the month. The city shifts into summer rhythm. Early starts. Midday retreats indoors. Long, warm evenings.
July is Tehran's hottest month. Highs typically reach around 35°C (95°F). Overnight temperatures stay above 25°C (77°F). The dryness makes it more bearable than the thermometer suggests. Afternoons in exposed areas like the bazaar require genuine heat management. Smart timing helps.
August is marginally cooler than July, with highs around 34°C (93°F). The pattern is essentially identical. Clear skies. Almost zero rain. Warm nights. Rooftop dining comes into its own. Parks in the cooler northern districts do too.
September delivers autumn's first real signal. Highs retreat to 30°C (86°F). Evenings cool fast. The landscape around Tehran browns at lower elevations. The city itself wakes up. Summer's grip loosens. Outdoor life returns in full.
October mirrors April. It is arguably Tehran's second best month. Highs hit 23°C (73°F). Skies stay clear. Outdoor exploration feels right. First autumn colour hits the Alborz slopes above Darband. Rainfall returns at 18mm. Just enough to freshen things. Not enough to ruin plans.
November cools fast. Highs drop to 14°C (58°F). Rain becomes steadier at 36mm. The mountains above Tehran get their first snow. The city quiets down. Tourist numbers thin. A more local feel takes over.
December bites. Highs hover around 9°C (48°F). Nights fall to 2°C (36°F) or lower. Snow blankets the higher northern suburbs. Ski resorts above Tehran open. Indoor life dominates. The city stays lively. Tourism hits its yearly low.
