Taxis & Rideshare in Tehran (2026) - Grab, Uber & More
Get around Tehran hassle-free with reliable taxi and rideshare options-good for exploring the city's top attractions and navigating its lively streets.
Safety Tips
Spot the yellow or green taxi license plates. Check the driver ID card on the dashboard. Tehran's unlicensed 'private taxis' (taxi-ye shakhsi) rarely display either.
Every Tehran taxi must use the digital meter (taximeter-e shar'i). If the driver says it's broken or won't switch it on, step out. Grab another cab.
Install Snapp or Tapsi. These are the rideshare apps locals trust. They reveal driver details, map your route, and let you share the trip live.
Riding alone or late? Select Snapp's female-driver option (Snapp Rose). Sit in back. Share your live location through WhatsApp or Telegram. Tehran's apps already record the journey.
Common Scams to Avoid
Drivers at Imam Khomeini International Airport sometimes insist the official airport taxi coupon system is 'broken' and quote inflated flat rates. Insist on using the airport's prepaid taxi desk or ride-hailing app pickup zones.
Taxis around Tehran Grand Bazaar may claim the meter is 'out of order' and demand a high fixed fare. Check that the meter is running before you set off or switch to another cab.
Some drivers take unnecessarily long routes, on the Chamran Expressway or Valiasr Street detours, during rush hour to inflate the fare. Follow your progress on a map app and politely ask for the direct route if you notice detours.
