Tehran Airport Transfer Guide (2026) - All Options & Tips
Tehran is served by Imam Khomeini International and Mehrabad airports. Learn the secure transfer options and common scams to avoid.
Imam Khomeini International, well south of Tehran, handles international flights, while Mehrabad, much closer in, serves domestic routes. The international transfer is a long road journey, usually by pre-booked car or official airport taxi.
We have not yet verified how travellers currently reach Tehran from the airport serving it, so we are not publishing routes, operators or fares we cannot stand behind. For what is running on the day you travel, the arrivals information published by your arrival airport is the reliable source, and your accommodation will usually know what works best for the hour you land.
Helpful Tips
Grab a Tehran Metro Card at any station. Tap once for metro gates. Tap again for BRT buses. One card rules both systems.
Install Snapp before wheels hit tarmac. Iranian Uber runs cashless. Cards work. Farsi menus are easy after you arrive.
BRT Line 1 rockets from Azadi Square to Imam Hossein Square. Dedicated lanes beat traffic. East-west in minutes.
Tehran Metro Line 1 links Imam Khomeini Airport to the city center. Trains roll every 20-30 minutes. Count on it.
Common Scams to Avoid
Unofficial taxi touts inside Imam Khomeini International Airport quote inflated flat fares to downtown Tehran. Insist on using the official airport taxi desk in the arrivals hall or pre-book via ride-hailing apps.
Currency-exchange booths just outside the secure area advertise "no commission" yet give rates far below the open-market rate. Compare the offered rate with the live market rate on your phone and walk to the bank counters deeper in the terminal for fairer deals.
Porters in the baggage-claim area grab luggage without asking and then demand high tips. Keep your cart and bags in sight, politely decline assistance with a firm "na, mersi," and head to the marked free-cart zones.
